The Swan Hill Folk Museum was opened in 1962 and designed by the community and Roy Gounds and associates, Lindsay Pryor and Robert Ingpen (Australian stamp designer).
The post office was opened in August 1970 as the Swan Hill Folk Museum. On 27 September 1971, the name was changed to the Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement.
First day covers were specially overprinted for the post office.
