Australia Philately: Tamworth (2340)

The Tamworth Post Office was located on the corner of Fitzroy Street and Peel Street. It was designed by the Colonial Architect’s Office under James Barnet and built by W. C. Cains.

In 1966 the first major alteration was undertaken at a cost of $160,000. This work included doubling the length of the facade in Fitzroy Street with a new colonnade constructed to the ground and first floors matching the original 1886 work.

1970

Tamworth became a first day of issue postmarker office on 11 February 1970.

Tamworth became a Philatelic Sales Centre on 1 July 1970.
