To support the growing demand for tourists, Bahamas saw an increase in air services and cruise lines.
In 1953, Colonel Joseph Mackey’s airline, Mackey Airlines, introduced air services from Florida to Nassau and other islands in the Bahamas. Mackey Airlines would later merged into Eastern Airlines. In addition, Bahamas Airways Ltd network spread from Nassau, New Providence Island, out to surrounding islands including Bimini and Grand Bahamas, plus additionally West Palm Beach from Grand Bahamas. Other services connected Nassau to Miami and Fort Lauderdale. In March 1956 it inaugurated a service to Grand Turk, Turks Island via San Salvador Island, Mayaguana and Great Inagua. Pan American (Pan Am) World Airways inaugurated their first New York to Nassau flight in 1957.
Cunard, the P. & O. Steamship Co., and the Eastern Steamship Company offered regular cruises during the winter months in the USA.
