The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a specialised agency of the United Nations (UN) aimed at promoting world peace and security through the international cooperation in education, arts, sciences, and culture.
UNESCO’s Constitution came into force on 4 November 1946 with the deposit of the twentieth ratification by a member state. The first General Conference took place from 19 November to 10 December 1946, and elected Dr. Julian Huxley to Director-General.
