Bahamas Philately: 1968 14th Parliamentary Conference – 15c Local Horse-Drawn Surrey

What is a visit to Nassau without a ride in a Surrey? Something surely will be missing. This is one of the things the tourist comes for. A little slowing down of pace. You will find the surreys under the trees of Rawson Square, or in Frederick Street North. They are ancient carriages waiting as the world rushes by, with patient dobbins drowsing in the shade.

The huge wheels and framework and painted with every preposterous shade of dazzling colour. On the back, in spindly letters, are to be seen eye-catching names: Wells Fargo, Lightening Express, Cool Cadillac, Ramblin’ Rose, One-Horse Power and Completely Airconditioned.

The fifteen cent (.15c) denomination of the special Commonwealth Parliamentary Association issue.
