It was 156 years ago, in the year 1812, that Colonial-style structures were erected in the downtown heart of Nassau and these were the houses of Parliament. They were constructed of coral limestone and have since house the Legislature, Supreme Court, General Post Office, and the now defunct Colonial Secretary’s Office.
The three cent (.3c) denomination of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association stamp issue bears the face of the House of Assembly which seats the elective assembly – the first elective assembly was authorised on December 26, 1728, and sat for the first time on Michaelmas Day, September 29, 1729.
