Bahamas Philately: 1969 50th Anniversary of Airmail Service – 12c 1919 First Airmail Flight

The first airmail flight from Nassau to Miami was an experimental flight that occurred on 30 January 1919. Six hundred pieces of mail were carried by two U.S. Navy Curtiss NC-4 flying boats commanded by Lt. Cummings.

The 12c stamp shows a postcard from Miss Effie Adderly, daughter of George Butler Adderly, owner of a fleet of sponge boats. The postcard is addressed to her aunt, Miss Harriet Adderly, who was living in San Francisco.
