Bahamas Philately: 1971 Definitive Series (New Values)

On 1 July 1971, the following postal rates changed:

  • 3c to 6c – Surface mail for books to the British Commonwealth and Foreign
  • 3c to 6c – Surface mail for printer matter (up to 2 oz.) to the British Commonwealth and Foreign
  • 5c to 7c – Surface mail for postcards to the British Commonwealth and Foreign
  • 6c to 7c – Surface mail for letters to the British Commonwealth (up to 1 oz.)
  • 12c to 18c – Airmail letters up to ½ oz to:
    • All countries in Central and South America, all islands of the West Indies, Bermuda, Falklands Islands.
    • Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic
    • All countries in Europe including the Azores, Iceland, Soviet Union and Turkey, The Islands od Cyprus, Malta and other Islands of the Mediterranean.

Due to these changes in postal rates, three of the values of the 1971 Definitive Series were re-issued with new dominations.
