Named for the 1800s lighthouse that marked the entrance to the Fresh Creek on North Andros Island, the Andros Yacht Club was opened in 1952. Dr Axel Wenner-Gren, the Swedish industrialist, launched the development when he purchased thirty-five miles of Andros beach. It was companion operation to the Lighthouse Club.
Facilities were available to members of accredited, registered yacht clubs throughout the world. The club had a 750ft concrete wharf on a channel with a low tide depth of nine feet, and a machine shop for minor repairs.
