The Bang Bang Club was originally established by Colonel Hank S Thorne as Camp Bang Bang in 1949 – a fishing camp at Pot Cay, Andros Island. The name Bang Bang was a reference to the duck and boar hunting that the camp offered. However, its famous offering was bonefishing along with freshwater fishing, duck and pigeon shooting.
By 1951, the camp had begun to expand and by 1954, the camp consisted of coral stone cottages separated by tropical gardens, and included spacious, airy single and double rooms with private baths. By 1956, it was referred to as the Bang Bang Hunting Club or Bang Bang Club.
The place eventually fell into disuse and laid dormant for many years.
