The Anchors Aweigh Hotel was located on North Bimini and was originally a Prohibition-era bar called the Fountain of Youth. Neville Stuart, a fuel salesman for the West India Oil Refining Company, was persuaded by Ernest Hemingway to acquire the bar and offer accommodation to anglers. He called it the Big Game Club and Anchors Aweigh Hotel. The hotel had 11 guest rooms with private baths and air-conditioning and was nestled in a palm grove.
In 1955-56 Stuart expanded the Big Game Club, whose marina was the sportfishing headquarters of the Bahamas for years.
Stuart sold out to the Bacardi family in 1969 and the property changed hands several times.
