Cumberland House was a small guest house based one block from the British Colonial Hotel and shopping area. The guest house provided 25 rooms for accommodation – all were air conditioned with a private bath and balcony. It was run by two restauranters, Lorraine Onderdonk (Secretary of Bahamas Hotel Association Ltd) and Hedwig Hauck.
Included with the facilities offered were a Bamboo Bar and Cocktail Lounge, but more famously, was its high quality (but expensive) Bahamian and Continental cuisine offered in its patio restaurant.
