The Current Club was located near the Current Settlement in Eleuthera and consisted of a number of cottages, together with with a clubhouse, dining room and bar. It was constructed in 1960 and was served by the North Eleuthera Airport. The hosts were Dann and May Lewis.
Around 1962, additional rooms were added to the club to increase the capacity to 19 rooms for about 50 guests.
In early in 1973, the club was purchased by a group of California businessmen avidly devoted to the sport of diving. The investment group’s two best known members were Al Santmyer, owner and operator of the Laguna Seasports chain of dive shops, and Lyle Shelton, owner and operator of a wet suit manufacturing firm called Del Mar Supplies, Inc.
