Fort Charlotte is a British-colonial era fort built on a hill over-looking the harbour of Nassau. The fort was constructed between 1787-1789 by British colonial governor Lord Dunmore after the end of the American Revolutionary war. It is named in honour of the Queen-Consort of King George III, Queen Saharia Charlotte
These forts were to be used as battle stations, to attack the invading Spaniards. The middle bastion, Fort Stanley and the western portion, Fort D’Arcy were added later. The fort has a moat, dungeons, underground passageways, and 42 cannons, which have never been fired in an act of aggression.
It is one of several English forts that are still standing in Nassau.\
