In 1957, Pan American (Pan Am) World Airways inaugurated the first New York to Nassau flight. The first flight from New York departed on 20 February and the first flight from Nassau departed 21 February.
Pan Am was authorised to provide service between New York and Nassau for five years. However, they were not permitted to render single plan service from New York to Miami via Nassau nor to hold out to the public that they provided service between New York and Miami.
