In 1956, William Butlin, a major shareholder in the British and Bahamian firm that took over operations of the Fort Montagu Beach Hotel, announced a program of improvements to the hotel. After upgrades were made to rooms during 1959, the hotel was re-branded as The Montagu Beach Hotel in 1960.
By 1965, Butlin had again taken over the hotel after the British and Bahamian lessee relinquished their lease.
