The Nassau Shop was situated on Bay Street and was one of Nassau’s largest and most modern stores offering a variety of goods. It was opened on 11 January 1957 by Harold Rupert Saunders (b.1904-d.1993) who had previously opened the first modern dry cleaning business called The Nassau Dry Cleaners in 1927.
The building was described as a three storied building of modern design and of modified West Indian architecture. Fully air-conditioned, it was considered the most furnished and stocked store in the Bahamas.
