Dominica Philately: 1963 Definitive Series

The seventeen stamps depicted on the 1963 Definitive Series features various scenes and general items of interests in and around Dominica with a focus on industry.

Dominica’s economy at this time was based on agriculture. The main exports consisted of bananas, raw lime juice, lime oils, copra, raw cocoa, vanilla and grapefruit. Minor industries included straw and fibre handicrafts, lime crushing mills, rum factories, a cigar factory and a cannery.

Industrial development was encouraged through pioneer legislation with a hope to develop the tourist industry through the great natural beauty of the land.
