Корабль этот был построен в Шотландии в 1909 году и планировалось, что его будут использовать как каботажное, то есть для перевозки грузов внутри страны. Назвали тогда новый пароход «Beotic».
В начале Первой мировой этот корабль покупает Россия. Вместе с портом приписки корабль меняет и своё имя на «Георгий Седов».
Назвали ледокол в честь гидрографа и полярного исследования Георгия Яковлевича Седова.
This ship was built in Scotland in 1909 and it was planned that it would be used as a coastal ship, that is, for transporting goods within the country. The new steamship was then named “Beotic”.
At the beginning of the First World War, this ship is bought by Russia. Together with the port of registry, the ship also changes its name to Georgy Sedov.
The icebreaker was named after the hydrographer and polar explorer Georgy Yakovlevich Sedov.
