Join the Lithuania Philatelic Society and Vitaly Geyfman. “June overprints. Nepriklausoma Lietuva issues during the early days of German Occupation” Soviet stamps were overprinted with the three-liner NEPRIKLAUSOMA / LIETUVA / 1941 – VI – 23 by the Lithuanian Provisional Government. However, as the text of the overprint which meant “Independent Lithuania” went contrary to German war intentions and was politically unacceptable, an order soon came down to destroy the stamps so overprinted.
