Malawi Philately: 1970 Ninth Commonwealth Games

The 1970 British Commonwealth Games were held in Edinburgh, Scotland, from 16 to 25 July 1970. This was the first time the name British Commonwealth Games was adopted, the first time metric units rather than imperial units were used in all events, and also the first time the games were held in Scotland.

Malawi participated in Athletics, Boxing and Lawn Bowls.

  1. The cylinders forthe full sheets I have for this set are:
    4d/9d 1 and 1A
    1/3d 1B and 1C
    3/- 1 and 1A

    1. SG QE2 1973 cat listed these as “4d., 9d. 1, 1a ; others 1b, 1c.” I actually think these were printed in panes of 4 (1 top right, 1a top left, 1b bottom right, 1c, bottom left). However, I don’t have enough examples at the moment to confirm this.
