Malawi Philately: Lifupa Wildlife Lodge

Lifupa Wildlife Lodge was located in Kasungu National Park. It was originally known as Lifupa Game Camp and was owned by a German entrepreneur providing 18 beds for accommodation. The camp was serviced by its own airstrip.

In 1970, as part of the Government’s plan for hotel development, the camp was redesigned, partly rebuilt and expanded. Twelve thatched rondavels with ensuite bathrooms increased the accommodation to 27 beds. A swimming pool was also added. Tours of the game park were available with park guides.

After serious losses, the camp was taken over by Malawi Hotels Limited in 1975 and renamed Lifupa Wildlife Lodge.
