Nkopola Lodge was located at Mangochi on the shores of Lake Malawi. It was opened in May 1970 and provided 15-20 double rooms and designed to service driving tourists. It was built by Malawi Hotels Limited at a cost of K200,00 and was managed by Hallways Hotels (Overseas) Ltd.
In 1971, new amenities were added including eight additional family chalets, a marina, beach pavilion and four blocks of self-contained chalets to provide additional 32 bedrooms
