The Maple Leaf issue was the first definitive issue to be printed by the American Bank Note company in their new plant in Ottawa in 1897. It was the first full issue to be engraved based on a photograph instead of portrait paintings. The design replaced ornate styling and medallion vignettes with modern double geometric framing that became standard definitive stamp styling for the next 50 years. 125 years later, discoveries about these stamps are still being made.
In this presentation by the North Toronto Stamp Club, David discusses recent discoveries and the unusual aspects of each denomination in the Maple Leaf issue.
