Philatelic Society of Lancaster County member Bob Kotanchik present an introduction to the Machin Issues of Great Britain. This is one of the longest running worldwide definitive stamp issues, one that began in 1964.
How did these get started? Who designed them? How are colours picked? How can one be told from another? If security precautions are used, what are they? What makes these stamps such an interesting issue to collect? It’s all here.
Enjoy this primer on Great Britain’s longest running definitive stamp issues.
Please allow me a short comment on the video introduction to the Machin Stamps. The presenter stated that this is the longest-running stamp series in the world. I do not think that this is true. I have always thought that the NorwegianPosthorn series is the longest-running series. According to my information, this design was first used in 1871, was issued with adjustments through the years, and was still being issued in 1997. That makes the series the longest-running series, over 120 years.
