Philatelic Society of Lancaster County: The Shot Heard Round The World (3 October 1951)

Our very own Philatelic Society of Lancaster County member and Lebanon Stamp Collectors Club Newsletter Editor Scott Ney shares an exciting baseball-themed presentation entitled “The Shot Heard Round the World.”

The Date: October 3, 1951. The Teams: The Brooklyn Dodgers versus the New York Giants. The Location: The Polo Ground, Upper Manhattan, New York City, New York. The Event: Game 3 of the three-game playoff to determine the National League Champion.

You will relive when Bobby Thompson hit a home run into the left lower deck to win the game 5-4 and those famous three sentences were muttered: The Giants win the Pennant! The Giants win the Pennant! The Giants win the Pennant!

Scott illustrates his talk with facts and figures and covers (First Day Covers (FDCs) and others), baseball cards, and postal cards. Many of his items are signed. Enjoy this trip down memory lane.
