Rhodesia & Nyasaland Philately: 1959 Definitive Series

A philatelic advisory committee was set up consisting of 11 members, representing philatelic societies at Salisbury, Bulawayo, Kitwe and Limbe, and various Government Departments. The committee decided that a new issue of Federal postage stamps was desirable, and that the designs should be pictorial and taken from selected photographs. The committee agreed that in order to obtain the maximum publicity for the Federation, designs should feature the country’s development and attractions. Aspects favoured included agriculture, buildings, communications, fauna, flora, industry, scenery and transport.
