Rhodesia & Nyasaland Philately: Department of Federal Tourism Development

On 1 July 1954, the Federal Government assumed responsibility of tourist development across Northern Rhodesia, Southern Rhodesia and Nyasaland, and formed the Department of Federal Tourist Development.

The Director of Federal Tourist Development was based in Salisbury, the Federal Tourist Officer was based in Livingstone, and the Federal Information Officer In Zomba.

On 28 August 1954, the Federal Government Tourist Centre was officially opened at Livingstone. It was located between the Rhodes-Livingsone Museum and the new Civic Centre on Jameson Road. The Information kiosk at Livingstone airport was handed over to Central African Airways, and an another kiosk was opened in the entrance hall of Victoria Falls Hotel.
