Rhodesia & Nyasaland Philately: Gatooma

Gatooma was founded in the 1890s as a mining camp, and constituted under a village management board in 1907. The settlement was named after the nearby kraal of Chief Katuma.

Gatooma was the home of the Cotton Industry Board, whose two mills employed thousands. It was also the centre of the Federations’ richest gold producing area, diamond drilling and the only magnesite mine.
