L M Ericsson Telephone Co (Pty) Ltd was located in Bulawayo. It was an agency of L. M. Ericsson, Sweden.
In 1958, due to the increasing emphasis on foreign sales, L M Ericsson formed L M Ericsson Telephone Co (Pty) Ltd, Johannesburg, to replace it’s previous sales agency system. At the time, the branch in Rhodesia & Nyasland was located in Salisbury.
Following growing criticism of the apartheid policy in South Africa, Ericsson closed its South African sales office but continued to sell its products via agents. The Rhodesia & Nyasaland appears to have relocated to Bulawayo in 1962/63.
However, after a few years, Ericsson terminated its agency arrangements and phased out all its operations in South Africa. The Rhodesian agency then returned to Salisbury.
