The Bulawayo Blood Transfusion Service was established in Bulawayo in 1960. The service collected blood from African and European donors, supplying blood at a rate of £2 15s 0d per pint. While African or European blood could be used on Africans, the reverse could not.
By the mid-1970s, the service was subsidised by the Rhodesia Government.
