On 21 August 1971, Rhodesian Breweries Ltd announced a new wholly owned subsidiary, Southern Sun Hotel Corporation of Rhodesia (Pvt) Ltd, which had strong links to the Southern Sun Hotel Corporation of South Africa. The new subsidiary took on a five year lease from Rhodesia Railways to manage the Victoria Falls Hotel.

In 1975 a joint venture between Meikles and Southern Sun Hotel Corp saw the management change to Meikles Southern Sun Hotels.
