Wankie Safari Lodge was a 100 room, three-star hotel located just outside the Wankie National Park at Dett, near to Wankie airport. The lodge was opened by the Prime Minister in January 1972 at a cost of nearly two and a half million Rhodesian dollars (1.8 million pounds sterling).
The lodge was managed by Southern Sun Hotel Corporation of Rhodesia (Pvt) Ltd. In 1975 a mammoth joint venture under Meikles management was formed with the large Southern Sun hotel and casino group. The hotel became part Meikles Southern Sun Hotels.
