Royal Philatelic Society London: Incoming Mail to Sarawak

Simon Martin-Redman FRPSL presents the subject of incoming mail into Sarawak.

Covers from Sarawak are exceptionally scarce, which is not surprising really as in 1870 there were only about 25 officers in the employ of the Rajah plus a few missionaries, and even by 1900 there were still only 80 Europeans in the country.

Incoming covers are even more difficult to find. This presentation has 20 covers from the UK illustrating various postal rates. There are also other covers from many different countries, and nearly all are the only ones known to date.

Simon has been searching for these incoming covers for nearly 40 years and because of the extreme scarcity of these covers, he is the first person to put together an incoming display. Simon’s research into some of the rates and routes make it a fascinating subject.
