Southern Rhodesia Philately: 1964 Definitive Series

A new definitive issue of postage stamps for Southern Rhodesia will be placed on sale at all post offices on Wednesday the 19th February, 1964. The issue compromises fourteen denominations with a total face value of £2.3.10½d. and is printed by photogravure process by Harrisons and Sons Ltd., London. All stamps will be multicolour, and of horizontal format. The designs feature various aspects of the natural resources of Southern Rhodesia, and include a cameo portrait of Her Majesty the Queen.

First Day Covers

First Day Covers will not be supplied by the Post Office. Residents of Southern Rhodesia are requested to purchse their requirements from post offices and post their own first day covers. Covers requiring registration should be “blue-lined” and handed on over post office counters. Special posting boxes will be provided at the larger centres for the posting of unregistered covers requiring special cancellation by hand date-stamp. Covers posted in the ordinary posting boxe at these centres will be machine-cancelled in the usual way.

No special date stamps or cachets will be used in connexion with this issue.
