Southern Rhodesia Philately: A F Philip & Co Ltd

A F Philip Co Ltd was located in Fife Street, Bulawayo. The business began as timber importers in Port Elizabeth and branches opened in Salisbury and Livingstone. The Philips were descendants of the Scottish missionary and superintendent of the London Missionary Society, Dr John Philip.

The business dealt with all requirements for settlers excluding food, drink and clothing. Building materials formed the main line of the business, followed closely by agricultural machinery. In addition they stocked hardware, tools, paint, and fencing materials.

By the 1920s they also had a garage service in Gwelo.
