Central Cotton Ginneries (Southern Rhodesia) Ltd was established in 1924. It’s head office was located in Salisbury. It had ginneries in Salisbury, Gwelo and Umtali.
There were previous attempts to expand the cotton industry in Rhodesia but efforts were limited due to the lack of ginneries and various other causes. Central Cotton Ginneries (Southern Rhodesia) Ltd was established to provide the needed ginneries.
Cotton from the Salisbury ginnery was sent to Durban, South Africa for export. This was a vast improvement over the cotton exported to Liverpool, as the market in Durban increased the speed of payment to farmers and made the cotton more accessible to other markets.
