Hello, I’ve been collecting Japan stamps for a few years and learned for the most part how to identify forgeries. Japan stamps the early versions had many books on the subject. Good luck on your search.

This is a very tricky area because of the “wealth” of forgeries by many perpetrators. The expert in this field continues to be Lois Evans-de Violini, who is on the Expert Committee of the American Philatelic Expertizing Service. She literally wrote the book, which is available through the APRL, including a digital copy.
