Zambia Philately: Hotel Inter-Continental Lusaka

The Hotel Inter-Continental Lusaka was opened in 1968 by the Inter-Continental Hotel (ICH) brand. ICH was established in 1946 by Juan Trippe, founder of Pan American Airways as a division of Pan Am.

In 1966, Neal Prince hired the G.B. Designs, Inc., located out of New York City, whereby the G.B. Designs, Inc. was a partnership between Joseph Grusczak, A.I.D., President and James Ray Baker, A.I.D. to provided complete renderings for the New Construction, which consisted of various design renderings detailing of all fixed decor, provide the selection of all furniture, fixtures and soft goods, provide documentation for bids and purchasing for the public Lobby, the Mutanda Coffee Hut, Lauangwa ar, the Makumbi Rooftop Restaurant and Bar and the various Guestrooms and Suites, with the final approval by Mr. Neal Prince, for the Hotel. The renderings and designs were inspired by the local culture of Lusaka, Zambia, Africa.

The Hotel Inter-Continental Lusaka is ideally located in the charming residential area of Zambia’s capital. It is within easy walking distance of embassies and government buildings, and just a five drive from the business district.

Our spectacular rooftop Makumbi Restaurant, with panoramic city views, severs international cuisine and local specialities, with music and dancing nightly. The adjoining Makumbi Bar shares the enchanting view. For informal meals and snacks our Mutanda Coffee Hut is ideal, and the Luangwa Bar is the place to meet for cocktails. 

Our 200 guest rooms are as modern as tomorrow with central heating and air-conditioning. A swimming pool on the garden terrace invites swimmers and sun bathers to enjoy Zambia’s four seasons of sun.
