The Zambia National Tourism Bureau (ZNTB) was established in May, 1965 to market tourist attractions such as waterfalls, game parks and cultural ceremonies. One of the successful campaigns of the Bureau was the Zambia in the Sun campaign.
In addition to the marketing of tourist attractions, from 1968 they also operated tours for tourists all over the country through its Tour Operating Company. It ran luxury buses, mini buses, a fleet of cars and motorised boats on lakes and the Zambezi River. Offices were opened in Lusaka, Livingstone, Nairobi, New York and London.
The bureau was wound up in 1979 and the Zambia National Tourist Board was established on 1 January 1980, and its effective date of operation was 1 May 1980. It became an autonomous statutory board that implemented all policies on behalf of the Zambian Government.
