Zambia Philately: Zambia Safaris Limited

Zambia Safaris Limited was originally operated in Kalomo as Zambia Safaris and was run by two local ex-senior members of the Games Department, Ron Kidson and Keith Rowse. They held concessions in west Zambia adjoining the Kafue and Zambezi rivers.

In 1965 Zambia Safaris Ltd inaugurated game hunting when the Government granted new hunting concessions. Game that was available included roan, sable, kudu, elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, crocodile, hippopotamus, black lechwe and other types of game.

By 1975, the business moved to Lusaka and by 1976 it was the biggest professional hunting company in Zambia, with a turnover of K1 million, providing a stream of revenue to the Government through licenses and permits.
