Jamaica Philately: 1962 IX Central American & Caribbean Games – 1d

The 1d stamp shows four sports:

  • Weightlifting – is a sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with each athlete vying to successfully lift the heaviest weights. Weightlifting was introduced to the games in 1938.
  • Boxing – is a combat sport in which two people, usually wearing protective gloves and other protective equipment such as hand wraps and mouthguards, throw punches at each other for a predetermined amount of time in a boxing ring. Boxing was introduced to the games in 1935.
  • Football – is a family of team sports that involve, to varying degrees, kicking a ball to score a goal. Football was introduced to the games in 1930.
  • Cycling – is a sport of competitive physical activity using bicycles. Cycling was introduced to the games in 1938.
