Jamaica Philately: 1962 IX Central American & Caribbean Games – 6d Water Sports

Water sports are a sport played or practiced on or in water, such as swimming, water polo, or surfing. The 6d stamp shows four water sports:

  • Swimming – including pool swimming and open water swimming. Swimming was one of the original sports introduced to the games in 1926.
  • Diving –  the sport of jumping off springboards or platforms into water. Diving was one of the original sports introduced to the games in 1926.
  • Sailing – the practice of navigating a sail-powered craft on water, ice, or land. Sailing made it’s first appearance in the games in 1962.
  • Water Polo – is a sport of two teams played in water with a ball. Water polo was introduced to the games in 1938.
