Just off Rawson Square on the south side, is Parliament Square (previously referred to as Public Square). The square is bordered by three distinctive Georgian neoclassical buildings, housing the key branches of Bahamian government
The Georgian-style buildings were built between 1805 and 1813, are presided over by a statue of a young Queen Victoria that was installed much later in 1905.. The House of Assembly (the oldest governing body in the New World) is to the right and the Senate building in the centre (where the old post office once occupied the first floor). The building on the left houses the administrative offices.
Behind the House of Assembly is the Supreme Court of the Bahamas building, built in 1921.
