Bahamas Philately: Hyatt Emerald Beach

In March 1973, the management of the Emerald Beach Plantation and Hotel changed from Corrigan Hotels to Hyatt International Hotels. The hotel was re-branded to the Hyatt Emerald Beach and underwent extensive renovations and redecoration. However, by 1974, over half of the hotel was closed and was badly dated.

Prime Minister Lynden Pindling and his Government decided to purchase three hotels on Cable Beach with the Hotel Corporation of the Bahamas to run them. In August 1974, the Hyatt Emerald Beach Hotel was purchased by the Government for $4.8m. The name returned to the Emerald Beach Hotel.
