In August 1974, the Hyatt Emerald Beach hotel was purchased by the Government for $4.8m. The hotel was marketed as part of The Great Resorts of Cable Beach.
By 1978, the hotel came under the management of Dallas-based Jar Tar Hotels and became the Emerald Beach Hotel – A Jack Tar Resort.
