A 7c stamp to commemorate the sesqui-centenary if the beginning of the Australian judiciary system as it is known today, was issued on 15th May, 1974. The stamp design is the work of Mr. T. Thompson of Sydney; Mr. Thompson also designed the two first day covers associated with the issue.
In preparing the artwork for the stamp design Mr. Thompson consulted a number of reference sources and the final design is a composite of elements from several of these references; it does not depict any particular judge or court.
The stamp measures 24.15 mm x 37.75 mm and eas printed by multicolour photogravure on the Rembrandt maching by the Note Printing Branch of the Reserve Bank of Australia, Melbourne, on unwatermarked paper containing helecon. Five cylinders were used for the printing and colours in printing order were: yellow, red, blue, brown and black. Sheet content (as issued) is 100.
