Youth hostels are an international phenomenon. Their aim is to:
… help all, but especially young people of limited means to a greater knowledge and understanding of the world, particularly by providing hostels for them in their travels and thus promoter their health, education and recreation.
On 13 September 1989 Australia Post will issue a 41c stamp to commemorate the 50th Anniverary of Youth Hostels in Australia.
The stamp design depicts a group of young people outside an Australian youth hotels. There is an atmosphere of active enjoyment as they prepare for a day on the track.
