Australia Philately: 1989 Sheep in Australia – 85c Polwarth

Polwarth sheep are bred for both meat and wool. The breed was developed in Victoria in the 1880s and is three-quarters Merino and quarter Lincoln. Polwarths display many of the visual characteristics of the Merino, but have no horns. They thrive in areas considered too wet for the Merino and are most numerous in Tasmania and Victoria.
