The International Meteorological Organization (IMO)/ World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Centenary celebrations were during the 4-7 September 1979 and 10-12 September 1979. The celebration was attended by 210 participants, including representatives of 73 countries and 17 international organizations and in the presence of the President of Austria.
The decision to recognise the centenary was made during the Fifth World Meteorological Congress in 1967 and was to celebrate the international cooperation initiated at the First Congress in Vienna in 1873.
